The "Teufelsberg" project started when I and my colleague Gertrud Winberg, a sunny winter day, met the phenomenon Teufelsberg. Out of what we knew about the creation of the mountain, the project "Teufelsberg" was born on December 28 2008. The foundation of our work in the project are; historical knowledge, personal engagement and in process of our work contextually in time and place.
"Teufelsberg is an artificial hill with a curious history: it was built by the Allies after the Second World War from the rubble of Berlin. The curiousness begins with what is buried underneath the hill: a Nazi military-technical college designed by Albert Speer. The Allies tried using explosives to demolish the school, but it was so sturdy that covering it with debris turned out to be easier. Teufelsberg has now become a popular destination for adults and children out flying their kites or model aircraft." (Wikipedia)
